After weeks of drought it rained this week and veggies ran wild.
Couldn’t believe it when I got to the allotment yesterday, I’ve been watering for weeks to keep them alive and one big downpour and it caused a riot in the veggie patch. Growth everywhere. It’s wonderful.
It was a Wednesday morning, and that’s when we all work over on the community garden.
After working in the community garden the volunteers share the produce at the end of the morning. Pat had done a lovely job of cleaning and trimming the vegetables ready for their close-up (Mr DeMille) so I couldn’t resist getting the camera out.
Now that’s what you call a beetroot. Not sure if it will taste any good but Molita and I couldn’t resist getting the camera out.
Happy Gardening.

It always amazes me how the garden responds to rain. I’m not sure what it is. Maybe it is the lack of chlorine or the increase in minerals. Not sure.

I don’t know what’s in the rain but it works like magic.

“Holy MOLY!” I am speechless at the magnificence of that beetroot! You could make borscht for an entire Russian army to march on with that baby ;). I love beetroot and would make short work of it. Hope you are all making something suitably impressive with all of that gorgeous produce and cheers for the lovely photos Jean, you are a veggie paparazzi š

Fran I garden with a camera in my pocket!
We make good use of the produce. We swap recipes, pickle, preserve, and we sometimes have a cook-up as well showing how to use the produce.
I love beetroot too. I tend to pickle it in vinegar and always keep a jar in the fridge.

Everything is doing really well at the moment Maria with all that rain we had the other day.
As for the beetroot – can’t imagine how we missed it before and let it grow to this size as we usually pick them young.
It is magnificent though isn’t it.

Wow what a harvest Jean and such a high beetroot! I was told that rain has nitrogen in it which is why everything ‘greens’ up after a good rainfall….I don’t know if it’s true but it sounds right doesn’t it

Thank you for your kind words Cathy.
We had a big downpour of rain last week and it really perked everything up. (Myself included.)

I don’t think it’s stopped raining yet over here Jean. The only difference is that it is quite cold and obviously mother nature hasn’t quite got with the program and realized it is Spring! Hahahaha!

Hi Ryll. Thanks for visiting. That one big downpour is just a memory as we now battle high temperatures So I’ll be watering the new seedlings as often as I can get over there. Hope all is good with you.

I’ll never know, Mr T.
After it’s brief moment of glory it went onto the share table and I’m not sure who took it home. Hopefully somebody with a big pot to boil it in. Reckon it would have been a bit tough.
