We had a first try too at melons this year – enjoy! They look so impressive, like they should be difficult to grow, that everyone was happy when I brought one in to work to share.

They do look impressive don’t they Heidi. I don’t know much about growing melons, so I just planted the seeds in some nourishing soil and off they went. I have kept the watering up as I think these fruits are mostly water.

I am going to try them next year as I LOVE rockmelons 🙂 I wouldn’t have any left to share 🙂

Have a go at them Fran. This is the first fruit I’ve tried.

Would be a coup to get something like that in hobbitland!

Talking of “Hobbitland” did you know they have just made a movie about you !!!!!!!!!!!
3 hours long – great in 3D.

Wrong hobbit! Though there is a gardening hobbit, Old Gaffer Gamgee. I had to laugh as I read about how he tended gardens.

Aw shucks! I got the wrong Hobbit. Thank you for putting me right about Gaffer Gamgee.
Now that is over …… back to the allotment, and you get back to your gardening too !!

I was reared in the UK and still find it exotic to be growing melons, even after living here for over 30 years.
