I braved the pouring rain this morning to work on my allotment. My daughter-in-law gave me some sweet basil seedlings which I wanted to get into the ground and the rain should give them a good start, I also watered them in with comfrey tea to help them on their way. I am still learning about companion planting, and as I have read that basil and tomatoes make good companions I planted the four seedlings beside the tomato plant. This tomato plant seeded itself so it will be interesting to see what type of tomato it eventually produces. I have probably planted the basil too close together as the plants grow pretty big in the allotment, but that allows for any possible loss. Otherwise I can thin them out later.
The sweetcorn is coming along.
Snake beans still growing like mad.
And here is the harvest for the day, snake beans and brazilian spinach and a few small red chillies. The mushrooms grew in a bag of spent mushroom compost. We purchase bags of used mushroom compost from a local mushroom farm, but we usually find a few mushroom spores lurking in there.
